About the Participant

Theophina Gabriel

Theophina Gabriel is a Visionary Strategist for onyx magazine, a community-driven Black indie magazine publishing talented liberation-focused Black artists, poets and writers. Gabriel’s work involves creating economic structures to equitably compensate Black artists blueprinting critical life-affirming work by channeling the zeitgeist into thematic narratives that disrupt current landscapes of polycrisis. Steering the magazine for over seven years, he has collaboratively constructed experimental Black arts infrastructures that dismantle capital from time, (re)connect Black artistic kin and support physical print publications. In his spare time he enjoys writing letters, eating plantain chips and exchanging podcast-length voice notes with his circle.
